Sky Mobile TV on the iPhone from outside the UK

Sky Mobile TV on the iPhone from outside the UK
I don’t like watching TV…but I love football. When I heard Sky were releasing a mobile sports and news player I almost peed my pants. Then I found out it’s only available to people in the UK…I almost pooped my pants in anger and disappointment. So I set off on a google-aided journey to find a way to create a union between my love for Manchester United Football Club and my Irish internet using iPhone 3G. Needless to say, with a little help from google, and a bit off common sense, I worked it out.
A fair few fellow footy (a lot of f’s there) lovers in Ireland with iPhones have since asked me for a how to, and while I’m more than happy to spread this gospel, writing this seems more efficient. BEWARE this will take you a minimum of 30 mins…Trust me, stick with it, it works…and once you’re up and running, it’s easy street and you can watch live footy from the palm of your hand, silently ignoring your friends and family.

1. go into iTunes/iTunes store. Sign out of your current account. Go to the bottom of the store and change your iTunes store region to UK. In the Store, search for the Facebook app (or any free app) and select to download it. A pop-up screen will appear. Select ‘Create new iTunes account’. Proceed to create a UK iTunes account, you will have the option to select ‘none’ when it asks for Credit Card details (because you chose a free product earlier). Make up any address you like in the UK. You will only need a valid email address (that isn’t already being used by another iTunes account.
2. in your iPhone go to Settings/Store and sign out. Sign back in with your new UK iTunes account
3. Open App Store on your iPhone. Search for ’sky mobile tv’ app and download it.
4.  go back to Settings/Store and sign out. Sign back in with your normal iTunes account.
5. open the Sky Mobile TV app and click ‘register for sky id’ (unless you already have a sky id.
6. go back into the app and now select ‘login and register’. Login with your new id, and use a credit card to subscribe to the £6 a month fee.
7. This part is very important. This is what tricks the app into thinking you are using your phone from within the UK. go to www.12vpn.com – create an account and sign up for 6months or a year VPN(Virtual Private Network) subscription service. Once you have done that and have your 12vpn username and password, you are ready for the next step.
8. in iPhone go to Settings/General/Network/VPN/Add VPN Configuration. Fill in as follows:
Type: PPTP
Description: call whatever you like
Server: uk.12vpn.com
Account: your 12vpn username
RSA SecureID: Off
Password: your 12vpn password
Encryption Level: Auto
Send all Traffic: ON
Proxy: Off
Save
Toggle the VPN to see if you’ve typed everything in right (it will return an error if you’ve inserted your information in wrong) You know your in business if you see the VPN icon appear along the top of your iPhone beside your carrier and wifi icons.
9. make sure wifi and your VPN are both on. Now enter the Sky Mobile tav app again. Login with your Sky ID.
Enjoy

*once you have your VPN setup, a toggle will appear in Settings next to the wifi toggle. This makes it much easier and quicker to toggle your VPN on/off. You’re going to want to toggle it on and off as you use the mobile tv app as it uses up your 12vpn bandwidth while on.

Nerd honesty

I got this in an email from a relitavely new good friend, Peter Neill. Let me just give you a little back story. We became friends soon after realising we both had 6week pregnant wives, due dates a day apart. Apart from having this incredible first spawn on the way experience in common, the other thing we share is a love for technology, hacking, and general computer nerdiness. While I myself would be considered a nerd by my wife, Peter is like an uber-nerd compared to me. I hope that the masses can appreciate what follows. Thanks Pete, this made my day.

Joey,

Some disturbing news for you, this is going to be hard for you to take, but after much research, I have discovered that you are in fact a DLL file.
I know you think you have a real life and are in fact a person, but its simply not the case, you are a DLL file sent back through time to change the future for one lucky processor.
Relating to this, roberta is actually a core 2 duo and her pregnancy is actually part of her dual core nature, in that your child is a co-porcessor.

About now you are most likely having a sixth-sesne moment, remembering incidents from your past that you perceived as one thing but were in fact another:

The time you ate too much pizza – This in fact was a buffer overflow error and yes I know, you cant believe you did not realise at the time.

The time you set up the proposal with roberta, that was actually the time your software was first rewritten to include direct support for her Hardware API into your programing.

And, yes, the time when you fell asleep watching TV the other night, that was me joey, I accidentally deleted you from the hard drive, but thanks to the wonders of Drobo I was able to restore you.

So you ask, where do I go from here? The answer lies in your programming joey, perhaps someday you will be able to become more than the sum of your code, but for the mean time, it is you mission should you choose to accept it, to spawn as many child processes as possible

Peter, or perhaps easier for you to understand, 0111000001100101011101000110010101110010
